What does heat resistant hair mean?

Heat resistant fibre hair means that the hair can withstand heat without causing damage to the piece, up to a certain point.

The maximum temperature the fibre will be able to withstand will depend on what materials are used to make it heat resistant and how much was added into the synthetic blend. Our Stranded Clever Fibre is heat resistant up to 180℃.

How can fibre hair be heat resistant?

Synthetic fibre hair is made from a blend of finely drawn plastics, such as acrylic, polyester and PVCs (polyvinyl chloride).

When a synthetic fibre is specifically designed to withstand heat, it needs heat resistant plastics added to the fibre blend, such as Kanekalon and Toyokalon. It is these materials that protect the fibre hair, raise the melting point of the overall plastics and prevent heat-related damage.

Is all synthetic fibre hair heat resistant?

No, not all types of synthetic fibre hair are heat resistant.

Most types of synthetic fibre hair cannot or shouldn’t handle any temperature or heat, as the plastics that create the fibre have a far lower melting point than those in heat resistant fibre hair.

You should always ensure to read the product description or consult with whoever you purchased the hair from, if you are unsure as to whether you can use heat on the fibre hair or not.

Can you style heat resistant hair?

Yes, you can style heat resistant fibre hair.

The purpose of heat resistant fibre hair is that it is uniquely designed to withstand heat (up to certain temperatures). This means that the hair can be styled using any type of heated tool, including blow dryers, straighteners, curling irons and heated combs. As with any type of hair, heat resistant fibre hair can also be styled without heat.

However, if the heat resistant fibre hair pieces come pre-styled, we do not recommend re-styling it. Pre-styled fibre hair often uses smart memory technology to remember the style of the hair, even after washing. Restyling the hair can disrupt this and instead ruin the look. Therefore, we suggest only using heat to tweak the style back into the fibre hair, if needed.

TOP TIP: Make sure to read the product description or contact the seller before applying heat to any hair piece, to ensure that it is in fact heat resistant.

Do you need to use a heat protectant on heat resistant hair?

No, you do not need to use any heat protectant products on heat resistant fibre hair.

Heat resistant fibre hair is specifically designed to withstand heat up to certain temperatures (depending on the brand and style), and therefore is not prone to the same risk of damage as human hair and regular synthetic fibre hair. However, there is no harm in doing so if you want to protect the fibre hair further.
