Clip-in ponytails are incredibly popular right now, and it's no surprise. They're a great way to elevate your natural ponytail and give your look a bit more punch. Getting tired of the same old pony? Keep reading for three creative ways to wear a clip-in ponytail. 

Clip-in ponytails seem to be everywhere right now. From classic and simple to intricate and detailed, ponytail hair extensions are a great way to help bring a bit more oomph to your updo.

Tousled Pammy Bun

Since the launch of Netflix's Pamela: A Love Story and the release of her What's in My Bag interview with British Vogue, Pamela Anderson's iconic 90s bun seems to have taken the internet by storm, with hundreds of people recreating this tousled look across a range of social media platforms.

I can't say I blame them. The Pammy Bun is the perfect messy updo; effortlessly chic and easy to recreate. Granted, we don't all have the luscious locks of Pamela Anderson, and those with shorter or finer hair might be suffering from severe hair envy.

Sound like you? That's where clip-in ponytail extensions could be the perfect solution!

• Section of your bangs/the front part of your hair
• Brush your natural hair up into a high ponytail and secure this with a gentle hair tie
• Attach your ponytail extension piece (I'd recommend a drawstring attachment style)
• Use some bobby pins and begin to loosely pin up sections of the ponytail, creating a tousled bun
• Once you're happy with your Pammy bun, pull out some pieces of hair and curl them, leaving them loose.
• Add any finishing touches and hair accessories to your bun (I personally love using some embellished French pins if I'm wearing this look out)

• Brush your own hair up and back into a ponytail and secure it with a hair tie.
• Attach your ponytail extension (I'd recommend a wrap-around or claw clip extension type)
• Brush through your newly extended ponytail with an extension-friendly brush to blend the ponytail extension piece with your natural hair.
• Split your ponytail into two equal halves.
• Take a small section from the right half and cross it over to the left.
• Take a small section from the left half and cross it over to the right.
• Repeat steps 5 and 6 until you reach the end of your ponytail.
• Secure with a hair elastic.
• Pull out the sides of your fishtail braid gently to add volume, width, and texture.
• Accessorise and add any finishing touches you might need!

Accessorising Your Clip-in Ponytail

There are of course smaller clip options that can embellish your clip-in ponytail updo. From embellished French clips like I mentioned with the Pammy bun, to simpler butterfly clips or detailed bobby pins. 

And finally, there are silk headscarves or Alice bands, which can be a simple way to bring some colour into your hairstyle. Padded Alice bands, also, can help bring a bit more volume to your updo.
