Working out is a valuable part of daily life, it helps us clear our minds, keep fit and build our strength. The last thing you need when working out is un-ruly hair falling in your face, we have taken inspiration from some of our favourite influencers to discover what their tried and tested styles are show you how to recreate them yourself. If you’re going to yoga, running or doing weights these workout hairstyles are sure to keep the hair away from your face while also being super stylish.

Whether you have short or long hair we have curated these hairstyles to ensure they will stay in place even through high intensity workouts while also being easy to create and look good. These 7 easy workout hairstyles for short hair and long hair will be a great addition to your future fitness routines. Ponytails, braids and buns are fashionable and stylish but will also lock in your style so you don’t need to worry about your hair falling out.

The majority of these styles will require a hairbrush, some hair grips, hair elastics and some hairspray if you really want to lock your look in place.

Braided Bun

If you are doing an intense workout a regular top knot can fall out and ruin the moment. Braiding your hair can strengthen the shape of your hair and add stability to your look.

How to complete this look:

  1. Brush hair back into a high or low ponytail depending on your preference. Ensure there are no bumps and securely tie the ponytail.
  2. Braid the ponytail into whatever style of braid you would desire. The most popular style is a three strand braid; you can braid completely to the end of your hair and tie with hair elastics.
  3. If you would like for your braid to look thick and full you can carefully pull at the braid to separate the style and make it look larger.
  4. Carefully wrap the braided hair around the top hair elastic of the ponytail and secure in place with as many hair grips as necessary.

Textured high ponytail

Whether you’re heading to the gym to hit the treadmill or doing an ab workout this hairstyle is classic, quick and super chic. You can enhance this look with a Stranded medium curly ponytail.

How to complete this look:

  1. Brush hair back into a high ponytail by raising hair upward with the brush. Ensure there are no bumps and securely tie the ponytail.
  2. To loosen your ponytail you can take both hands and push from the outside of the hair elastics in towards your head as to slightly loosen the hair. This will relieve tension and avoid pain.
  3. To enhance the look you can curl your ponytail, this is quicker than curling your entire head first. This look doesn’t need to look perfect so take sections varying in thickness and curl each for approx. 20 seconds.
  4. Brush hair out with brush to add volume to hair and relax the curls.
  5. If you are short on time we have a handy hair piece which is ideal for this hairstyle, the Stranded medium curly ponytail is ideal to apply quickly before your workout if you preference your hair to be longer and fuller. Available in 30 different shades this gorgeous hair piece can be heat styled to add to your texturised ponytail.

Classic pony with a pop!

We all know what the classic pony looks like, it is such a versatile style that can be created and styled in different ways. We have taken inspiration from the incredible Lucy Mountain. Her feed is full of inspirational nutritional advice, workout advice and stunning work out gear. Lucy is often seen sporting the classic pony with a twist; her pony tails often have a slight texture to them finished off with a stylish scrunchie.

 How to complete this look:

  1. Add a texturing powder or dry shampoo to your root area to give the hair a bit of texture and volume. This hairstyle would even be perfect if your hair was in braids the day before.
  2. Brush hair back into a mid-ponytail. If you fancy a look like Lucy’s you do not need to scrap the hair back tightly, you can leave it a bit looser for a more natural vibe.
  3. Then securely tie the ponytail with hair elastics to ensure it doesn’t fall out while working out.
  4. To add some volume to your ponytail you can fluff up the end of your ponytail with your fingers or a brush, if using a brush be careful as to not damage your hair.
  5. To finish the look Lucy tops her ponytails off with a black scrunchie. A stunning velvet scrunchie will add the perfect pop to your gym hairstyles.

Low buns
This look is ideal for your yoga class or Pilate’s session. Putting your hair back in buns is a super cute hairstyle that also adds protection to ensure your hair won’t come loose.

How to complete this look:

  1. Divide your hair down the middle, follow down from a middle part.
  2. Working on one section at a time you can grab a piece of hair about an inch in size and wrap it backward over another piece of hair, continue to do this step working backwards to create a soft ‘braided’ look across the top of your head. Secure with hair elastic at the nape of the neck.
  3. Repeat on other side of the head.
  4. To create your bun, twist your hair right to the end then shape into a bun shape. You can loosen the twist or tighten it depending on the look you want to achieve.
  5. Hold the hair in place and secure with a number of hair pins and elastics.
  6. Secure this hairstyle with hairspray to ensure it stays throughout your session particularly if you are lying on your hair.

Long sleek low ponytail

Working out is an important part of everyone’s routine and you still want to express your style while exercising. Lauren Simpson is a major girl crush and also has the most incredible long blonde hair. We are here to break down her look so you can have equally as impressive locks while working away creating your dream body.

How to complete this look:

  1. If you do not have naturally straight hair an optional step you can take is to straighten your hair with a flat iron or you can blow dry your hair straight depending on your preference.
  2. Tie your hair into a compact bun; this will give your hair extensions something to grip onto while working out.
  3. To add some oomph to your look we have many beautiful pieces that can add length, volume and style. Our luxury hair extensions are easy to use. Our luxury long ponytail adds 19 inches of fullness to your ponytail from top to bottom. Available in 32 shades you can find your perfect shade here.
  4. To add the ponytail to your own hair is really simple: remove the bulldog clip from inside the ponytail and slide the grips below and above your bun. You can then conceal and tighten the drawstring within your bun.

The braided ponytail
This look is inspired by the stunning lady that is Kayla ITSINES. This brand new mom is a true inspiration from her incredible pregnancy workouts to her stunning evening glamour. Kayla is often seen wearing a braided ponytail and it is giving us serious Lara croft vibes!

How to complete this look:

  1. Start by brushing your hair back and gathering it back into as high a ponytail as you can create. If your hair is shorter you may need to pin up some hair that falls to your neck.
  2. To create a classic braid: divide your hair into three sections and begin by crossing over each other from right to left then left to right until you reach the end. Tie hair securely with elastic at the bottom.
  3. To make your hair look fuller, carefully pull at the braid to make it appear you have thicker hair.
  4. To create a fish tail braid: divide hair into two sections and pass pieces of hair from left to right and right to left, this style may take a slight bit longer but has an enhanced appearance totally worth the wait.
  5. Pull some pieces around to shape your face if you wish, if you prefer a sleek look apply some strong hold hairspray to the style to lock it in place all day.

We have all experienced the dreaded hair; you’re absolutely smashing your goals on the spinning bike while feeling your hair slowly slipping down your back.
